Memorial Garden

The Memorial Garden was funded by generous memorial gifts from almost one hundred of St. Paul’s friends and families. As the garden evolved, a large number of parishioners, island landscape professionals and amateur gardeners have also contributed their time, their ideas and gardening expertise.  It has developed matured and flourished and become a garden to be enjoyed by our Parish as well as the entire Nantucket community.

The concept was to create a sacred space in which we can celebrate the lives of people who have died and, through this natural setting, can emphasize the Easter message of hope and new life.

The names of those in whose memory specific gifts were given are now inscribed in a ledger kept on a memorial table in the chapel.  Inquiries and arrangements for interment of the ashes of members of St. Paul’s Church in the Memorial Garden may be made by contacting the Rector, or the parish office.  There is an expectation that families of those who are interred will contribute the amount of $1500 to the Memorial Garden Endowment Fund.  The endowment will eventually produce the necessary income for refurbishing the plantings, and upkeep of maintaining the garden in the future.

The work of caring for the garden is never done.
